You will never run out of things to do in Monterey, no matter what your age, interest, or experience is. There is such a range of variety in the activities this city has to offer. Let’s explore a few.
At the Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail, you can take a bike, or just yourself, up this popular hiking area. The trail runs along the Pacific Grove and Monterey’s coast and offers gorgeous scenic views of the whole area.
A day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium is the perfect way to spend some time in the city. The aquarium will allow you to experience sea otters, penguins, sharks, jelly fish, and a whole lot of other marine life. The aquarium is a big part of Monterey’s culture, considering the city is right on the water. The aquarium accepts donations for their Sea Otter Program, as well as offering various other education and research projects. This aquarium is an absolute must-see.
For a taste of the area’s history, check out Mission Basilica, a very historic church. The church that stands today was designed after a church that was destroyed in an earthquake in 1812. The ruins of the destroyed church, which was called The Great Stone Church, are located on the same grounds as Mission Basilica, making it a huge tourist attraction. The inside of the church is decorated with gorgeous interior art paintings by Dr. Norman Neuerberg. The entire church is built up of historical significance, from the papl crest on the outside to the ombrellino on the inside. Absolutely gorgeous, and educational, as well!
