Marina council denies Cal Am desal slant test well bid

MARINA >> Citing expert disagreement over the potential impact of California American Water’s proposed desalination slant test well program on an already seawater contaminated groundwater basin, the Marina city council denied the proposed testing until more extensive environmental review is conducted in the latest setback for the company’s Monterey Peninsula desal project. After seven hours of testimony and debate over two days, a split council voted 3-2 to deny Cal Am’s bid for the proposed two-year test well project at the Cemex sand mining plant in north Marina.
