Being a community with so much heart, Monterey has a strict focus on charitable work. There are countless nonprofit groups and charities to volunteer with, or donate to. Here are a few to look into.
Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey
1705 Second Ave.
Salinas, CA 93905
This wonderful charity has a very specific goal: to provide financial care to low-income families and individuals. Included within that are homeless residents of Monterey, as well as working class residents that do not make enough money to support themselves. 87 percent of the clientele in 2010 were families with children. It is important to take care of those going through a hard time, and Catholic Charities absolutely supports that idea.
The Lyceum of Monterey County
1073 Sixth Street
Monterey, CA 93940
A nonprofit founded in 1960, the Lyceum of Monterey County offers both enrichment classes and academic events in an attempt to offer a variety of learning styles for children of all ages. The charity focuses on getting kids to engage their bodies and challenge their minds, which have proven to be the most effective ways for children to learn. No matter the subject, the Lyceum will incorporate fun into education, helping kids to stay focus and driven!
The SPCA for Monterey County
1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway

The SPCA is an independent humane society that is entirely dependent on its donors. The SPCA has been around since 1905, and they have since maintained their dedication to housing neglected and abused pets and livestock. Besides providing those animals with homes and love, the charity also provides education concerning the proper treatment of animals.
